Our story
Why We Started Beyond Typical Training
Beyond Typical Training was founded on a simple belief: every person has the right to access and enjoy sport and physical activity in a supportive, inclusive environment.
We believe it is essential that clubs and community settings foster cultures that are informed, understanding and supportive. With 1 in 5 young people estimated to be neurodivergent, the need for greater awareness, knowledge and action has never been more important. Beyond Typical Training was founded by Holly Rai.
About the founder
Introducing Holly Rai
Holly Rai, founder of Beyond Typical Training, brings over 20 years of experience in Physical Education, shaped by a deep commitment to inclusion and child-centred practice. Beginning her career teaching across secondary schools (Year 7–13), Holly later expanded her perspective by working in international schools overseas before returning to Cornwall, where she spent seven years in primary education, supporting children from EYFS through to Year 6. Throughout her career, she has held leadership roles and played a key part in designing and delivering inclusive PE curricula that meet the needs of diverse learners.
Most recently, Holly stepped into a role as a Public Health and Wellbeing Trainer, becoming accredited to deliver Mental Health First Aid, Suicide First Aid, and Oliver McGowan Training, alongside a range of workshops that support both physical and mental wellbeing. As a parent of two children, including one who is neurodivergent, her professional mission is deeply personal – driven by a belief that every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and included in physical activity. Alongside her teaching, she has dedicated many years to coaching netball and contributing to sports committees.
Holly is passionate about bringing together her wide-ranging experiences, using them to shape Beyond Typical Training into a space where every kind of mind is supported, valued, and able to thrive.
